The New Kids Arrive (With British Kids)

One thing that always is jolting at English immersion camp is when you have one or two kids that are already fluent in English, having one parent being American, British, etc.

Even more jarring is when you have 45 kids, 8 or 9 of whom are British.

I was the person who was keeping the kids entertained as they got their passports and turned in money, snacks, etc.

On one end, with the French kids there were my go-to questions:

“Where are you from?”

“Do you like Harry Potter?”

Whereas the British kids were a bit different.

Conversation with one:

Camper:  London is better than Paris.

Roni:  They’re different.

Camper (snarkily): Yeah, one is better than the other.

Heh, did you curl up to weep softly after being humiliated by an 8 year old?
