Sour Grapes (AKA “11-year-old graduates from community college”)

sourgrapes

When 12-year old Roni Weiss graduated (with Honors) from Edmonds Community College in June 1996, Yahoo! had had its IPO about 2 months before.  No such front page would be in his future.

Apparently, this kid has an Israeli father.  Well, I have an Israeli mother.

He wants to do astrophysics and has been in national championships in martial arts.  I wanted to be an actor or stand-up comedian and was in a gold medal-winning swimming relay team when I was 8.

For the next 6-12 months, he “plans to devote himself to martial arts, write a book for kids on how to succeed in school, and take up scuba diving.”  I want to try parkour, do a travel TV show pilot and take up not obsessing over the past.

    Hi Roni,
The youngest graduate at Edmonds Community College, Lynnwood, WA this year is 14. She took online classes. A great story — but you are still the youngest graduate I know of from Edmonds CC. Sorry, Yahoo wasn’t in gear to give you better publicity at the time. You know, our Foundation gives out Distinguished Alumni awards accepting nominations all year round, so it’s not too late to get some recognition (http://www.edcc.edu/foundation/alumni)! Keep in touch. All the best — Michele Graves, Public Information Officer, Edmonds Community College here, I checked our records and confirm the veracity of this blog post!

Yeah, when I saw this on TV I immediately told my mom the legend of Tenderoni Weiss who went to CC instead of middle school.

  3. Daeha says:

Yeah, but who cares??? Accomplishing early in life doesn’t guarantee success later. You’re already doing what you love, so no reason to complain.
